You know when you download an app and one of those many “agree to continue” pop-ups… well pops up and you impatiently agree and also impatiently “allow” or “give” permission for the app to access your microphone?
Do you ever stop to wonder why exactly they need your microphone?
When you grant permission to these apps, you give them the license to track you in ways that may be a bit excessive. It makes complete sense for a video conferencing app to use your microphone but when some mapping/navigation-based or e-commerce apps request to access your microphone along with your location and contacts, that’s when I start to ask some serious questions.
Now, we’re not saying they’re definitely, a 100% listening to you but isn’t it a little odd that apps that have no business with voice, ask to use your microphone?
I did a little digging and found a way to check which app has access to your microphone and how to take that power away.
For Andriod users, go to Settings, Privacy and then find Permissions
For iOS users, go to Settings and then Privacy
You’re welcome!
